Three letters from people who can speak to your potential for success in a genetic counseling graduate program. Letters cannot be from peers or family members. Although the application portal allows you to enter the name of more than 3 recommenders, we will not review any more than the first 3 letters submitted.
The 3 letters should address various aspects of your skills and preparedness for graduate training:
- Your academic performance and potential for graduate study
- Counseling, advocacy, and/or volunteerism within the field
- Research and/or experiential learning, as appropriate
If your most relevant academic reference is more than five years removed, you may wish to include someone else who can speak to your academic potential.
You will enter each recommender’s name and contact information in the portal, and they’ll receive an email with a secure link to submit their recommendation from UConn Graduate Admissions (gradadmissions@uconn.edu).
Strong letters often point to:
- prior academic success
- independent and self-motivated learning,
- advanced coursework or projects (honors, research, capstones, independent studies),
- a habit of self-directed reflection on goals and progress.
