The Strongly preferred qualifications of an applicant to UConn’s Genetic Counseling program:
- additional courses beyond the prerequisite minimum in molecular or cellular biology/genetics, medical terminology, scientific or creative writing, anatomy and physiology,
- submitted writing samples are clear, well organized and contain no, or few, spelling and grammatical errors,
- prior online course work experience,
- fluency in another language desired but not required,
- previous involvement with genetic counseling (paid or volunteer),
- demonstrated leadership qualities working either independently or as a contributing member of a team,
- effective communication skills in scientific, ethical and/or social challenges of systems genomics and genetic counseling
